Renewable Energy Certificate Definitions from 1st January 2011
Effective 1st Jan 2011, The Federal Government implemented a split in the Renewable Energy trading scheme (REC scheme). RECs will now be categorised and traded based on whether they are created from small scale technologies or large scale generation technologies.
Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) created from 2001 to end 2010 will be classified as LGCs (Large-scale Generation Certificates).
Certificates created for solar water and small generation units such as PV, installed before but created on or after 1 January 2011 will be classified as LGCs. In this case certificates must be created within 12 months of installation.
Certificates for solar water and small generation units such as PV, installed after 1 January 2011 will be classified as STCs (Small-scale Technology Certificates).
